Contra Costa County built a new airport administration building at Buchanan Field Airport in Concord, California. The Terminal included space for the Airport’s Administration Office with additional flexible space that can be used for public meetings, serve the general aviation community, potentially attract commercial or charter aviation service, and an Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) facility for staff and equipment. Construction included the demolition of the existing modular buildings and the construction of a new Type II-B, single-story building. The new 21,300 SF building includes airfield administration offices, training space, kitchen and locker rooms, passenger holding, concessions and AARF bays with secondary power supplied by a new electrical generator.
3QC provided Title 24 Commissioning on the new airport building, including commissioning of all MEP systems, building controls, landscape irrigation and the new emergency generator. Our Commissioning Agents tested and confirmed the final operating status of all energy systems. The site remained an active air field with continuous operation during construction work.
3QC helped meet the California Building Code requirement of commissioning all new construction project energy systems. Our team ensured that the building systems were constructed to the energy code requirements, the building systems function in an energy-efficient mode of operation, operator training was provided, and that future building operations reduce carbon emissions. Additionally, commissioning confirmed that the contractor completed all of the energy systems functional details and that the building was ready for occupancy and operations.
