Sacramento’s new Criminal Courthouse is an 18-story high-rise courthouse that replaced the aging and outdated Gordon Shaber Courthouse. Not only does the new facility provide a safer, more modern environment for court operations, it also consolidates court services once housed in five separate facilities located throughout the city of Sacramento. The Courthouse is one of the largest, built by the Judicial Council of California (JCC) under SB 1407 – the states program to rebuild and repair courthouses in critical need of repair. Approximately 538,000 SF, the new courthouse includes 53 courtrooms – accommodating the relocation of 44 courtrooms from the Schaber Courthouse. The new building also includes underground parking for judges and court administrators and consolidates court operations in one facility that is efficient, economical, and secure.
3QC served as Commissioning Authority, performed LEED Enhanced commissioning and assisted the JCC with a whole building commissioning approach integrating all critical buildings systems including low voltage, security, fire protection and communications systems. Our pro-active nature and approach can be seen with how our team went above and beyond to work carefully with the design team early in the project to clarify aspects of the design, like the sequence of operation, to speed up and smooth out the testing phase of the project.
3QC’s Quality leadership, technical system expertise and Project Team support included providing additional field presence and project planning strategies to support project quality and reduce cost and schedule impacts of installation issues throughout the construction phase for complex MEP, AV and Security systems. Additionally, 3QC expedited functional test planning development and equipment specific testing strategies to support the Contractor’s quality control methodology as well as to support scheduling efforts in order to provide a finalized system compliant with project requirements and Owner expectations.
