Placer County’s new 140,000 SF Health and Human Services (HHS) Center consolidated the existing staff and services into a single new facility in Northern Auburn. The consolidated HHS divisions include: Executive and Administration, Adult System of Care (ASOC), Children’s System of Care (CSOC), Environmental Health, Humans Services, Public Health. The “one-stop” service center for the Auburn and foothills area would improve public access to HHS services while providing appropriately designed and programmed spaces to deliver services for a variety of needs. The building is envisioned as a two-story structure, in order to create stronger relationships between divisions, be favorable for future flexibility, maximize daylighting throughout the building, and be more consistent with the scale of adjacent and other nearby buildings on the government center campus.
3QC was hired by Placer County to perform LEED Enhanced Commissioning services, along with Monitoring Based Commissioning services for the new Zero Net Energy-designed HHS Center. The HHS Center systems include its associated structure and envelope, electrical, plumbing, mechanical heating ventilation and air conditioning, security, fire protection systems and all necessary elements for a completely functional facility. With the push for Zero Net Energy, there was an emphasis on electrical systems throughout the facility, along with a solar photovoltaic system.
