The Los Angeles Sports and Entertainment District (LASED) at Hollywood Park was developed as a year-round sports and entertainment destination with amenities to please a wide variety of fans and tourists. As part of the development, LASED invested in both a 180,000SF, 6,000-seat Performance Venue, now known as YouTube Theater.
3QC served as Commissioning Agent and worked in collaboration with the project team to ensure code compliance and building system optimization. Performance venues present a rather unique commissioning challenge. Lighting, acoustics, security and audiovisual systems require careful integration with other building systems (MEP) in order to achieve optimal functionality for facility end-users. 3QC’s significant experience in the unique commissioning challenges with integration of theatrical lighting, low voltage, security, BMS and AV equipment with other building systems played a crucial role in achieving optimal functionality and audience experience. Our team’s careful coordination and testing for acoustic control and vibration mitigation was essential in eliminating disruptive noise transmission from building equipment to audience chambers and outdoors.
The commissioning process resulted in a smoother, more efficient operation of the YouTube Theater’s systems, especially as it relates to the heating and cooling systems, electrical systems, the building automation system, the security, audio/visual systems and the smoke control system. The Commissioning team did a great job with coordinating the requirements of splitting the testing effort into two phases. It was critical for the success of the project that the Cx Authority created a united approach to testing with the construction team, which resulted in the contractors being ready for testing and in turn reduced the number of issues to be corrected and/or resolved. Furthermore, the Legends ownership personnel was supportive of the 3QC commissioning process which in turn reinforced the commissioning process, initiated the importance of compliance with the construction team and lead to a more efficient and effective handover to the ownership team.
