The 3 million square foot L.A. SoFi Stadium, designed by the renowned architectural firm HKS, is expected to be complete for the 2020 football season. The much-anticipated Stadium will be built to suit as a home for both the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers – a first for the NFL. Not only will the ambitious project meet the needs of the NFL, but it will be the centerpiece to what is being described as a sports and entertainment city in and of itself. Surrounded by a mixed-use community of restaurants, hotels, retail, residential, office space and public parks venue, it is planned to become a quintessential sports and entertainment venue of the future not only the NFL but arts, music, culture and the 2028 Olympics.
From ground up, the project includes amazing structural elements. The open design is reflective of the Southern California culture and suited for a large public gathering place. A major portion of the Stadium itself is being constructed below ground to accommodate FAA requirements to avoid interference with air traffic coming in and out of Los Angeles International Airport. Crowning the Stadium is a 19-acre transparent and energy efficient EFTE canopy used in other iconic structures including Bayern Munich’s stadium, Alianz Arena, the Beijing National Aquatics Center and Anaheim’s Regional Transit Intermodal Center.
3QC’s building experts, through the commissioning process, are addressing the full quality assurance needs of the stadium’s systems including MEP, lighting, low voltage, building envelope and smoke control in collaboration with the Turner/AECOM, HKS and Legends Project Management team. The goal of the project is to not only comply with California Title 24 code requirements but to ensure the full functionality of the stadium’s systems, and provide a best in class, comfortable stadium experience for players, fans and the community as a whole.
