In response to the increased demand of housing at UC Davis and need for additional hotel space, the City of Davis approved several extended stay hotels in the south area of the city. The $25 million, 78,000 SF Hyatt House is a Design-Build project that includes a total of 118 rooms spanning three buildings that will include four-stories at the front and reduced to three-stories on the neighborhood facing side of the hotel. Photovoltaic solar panels for energy efficiency are being designed for roof top placement. Included in the hotel will be a 3,500 SF meeting and conference room and a 3,500 SF spa and fitness center. UC Davis Professors and other UC Davis visitors are expected to fill the hotel and enjoy spacious rooms, kitchenettes, a swimming pool and a beer/wine bar.
3QC was hired as a sub-consultant to the architect, HR Group Architects, to provide Title 24 Commissioning. During construction, commissioning focused on the installation and performance of the following systems: Chilled & Heating Hot Water Systems; Air Handling Systems; Terminal Units; Split System Cooling Units; Building Automation System; Domestic Hot & Cold-Water System; Lighting & Lighting Control Systems. The equipment was verified to be installed correctly and according to the construction documents.
A key result of the commissioning process was the involvement during scheduling and coordination of the equipment start-up, control system testing, and TAB work. The commissioning process has resulted in a smoother, more efficient operation of the building’s heating/cooling systems through the building automation system. In addition, building maintenance and operation’s staff are trained on the systems and can more efficiently respond to issues as they arise.
