3QC was the Commissioning Authority assisting the San Diego Community College District with the development of their 57,000 SF field house at Miramar Community College. The Hourglass Park Field House is a joint use project with the City of San Diego. The state-of-the-art, fully equipped facility provides a gymnasium, fitness center, classrooms, dance rooms, lecture rooms, office space, laundry areas, multi-purpose areas and a concession stand. It is the third phase of a 32-acre complex that includes a three-pool aquatics center and multi-sport ball fields. The facilities serve college students through athletics and instructional program offerings and area residents through Park & Recreation activities. 3QC also assisted the District with LEED consultation, advising both the architect and contractor on completion of credit templates. The project was LEED for New Construction™ Certified. Building systems commissioned included the HVAC system, lighting and day-lighting, the building automation system (BAS) and an energy management system.
With excellent coordination between the contractor, subcontractors and 3QC, the test and balancing of the mechanical systems and the functional testing of the buildings was completed on schedule and all mechanical issues were corrected prior to substantial completion.
