3QC was hired as the Commissioning Authority for the Intuit Dome Arena. The Intuit Dome serves as the new home of the Los Angeles Clippers basketball team as well as a landmark community facility that will revitalize mostly vacant land into a vibrant campus. The entire development process was purposefully cultivated to give the Clippers the best home in all of sports and have a transformative impact on the Inglewood community. With a focus on environmental protection, local involvement, economic development, player support, and the fan experience—this Project is an iconic model for future sports and entertainment hubs around the world.
The 915,000 SF Arena features a three-dimensional oval design with a unique exterior of diamond-shaped metal panels inspired by the concept of a basketball swishing through a net. The main Arena Structure consists of 18,000 fixed seats for NBA games, with 500 additional temporary seats for family shows, concerts, conventions and corporate events, and non-LA Clippers sporting events. The Project also includes a team practice and athletic training facility, office space, and sports medicine clinic, with an outdoor plaza, gathering space, and mixed-use areas in the surround campus. The facility achieved LEED Platinum certification and net zero greenhouse gas emissions through a combination of carbon offset credits, sustainable design features, and maximum energy efficiency.
3QC provided LEED Enhanced Commissioning, Building Enclosure Commissioning, and Monitoring Based Commissioning services for this iconic arena. During construction, 3QC identified that water had infiltrated multiple air handling units due to the envelope of the building being incomplete. Through collaborative effort between the JV Team and the Mechanical contractor, the issue was quickly resolved prior to any mold growth occurring in the equipment. Filters were also replaced prior to equipment startup and Test and Balance activities. Through 3QC’s efforts in working collaboratively with the entire construction team, the commissioning process has contributed to a more efficient and complete building, and building system operation, especially as it relates to building enclosure, the heating/cooling systems, and the building automation system.
