Kaiser Permanente continues to expand and renovate their Woodland Hills Medical Center Campus to meet an increasing patient population and expanded service offerings. The current project provides tenant improvements to the existing Nursing Towers, systems improvements and a new 54,000 SF building addition. The new building is two stories and serves as an expansion for existing emergency and surgical service areas. The expansion adds 38 emergency department treatment rooms, two emergency department trauma rooms, 10 operating rooms, 15 post anesthesia care units (PACU), and 20 preoperative bays.
3QC worked with HMC Architects to perform Building Enclosure Commissioning in support of Title 24 code requirements as well as LEED credits for the core and shell for the facility. The goal was to ensure that building enclosure systems were installed correctly and performing as designed to protect the Kaiser’s capital investment in their new facilities. Our services included and in-depth design review of enclosure systems to help identify and clarify design inconsistencies. To verify that the enclosure systems were installed as designed, 3QC developed project specific test plans utilizing ASTM and AAMA standards. Our team also issued and reviewed construction checklists, provided shop drawing/submittal review, observed mock up and in situ water testing, and conducted a final inspection to confirm quality and enclosure integrity. Building Enclosure Commissioning not only addresses industry challenges in constructing weather-tight enclosures but also helps to achieve and maintain energy efficiency goals and indoor occupant comfort.
